Heat Treat Fun

Oct 09, 2014

We perform all of our own heat treating at Bryce Fastener Inc. New furnaces arrived and are currently being installed. Heat treating at upwards of 2,000 degrees puts our operator at risk of getting burned. He couldn't resist some fun in his new foundry suit. Looks like a great Halloween costume if you ask me (Bryce). Recent Donation Bryce Fastener likes to support worthy causes, here's a couple pictures of where we recently donated our security screws. They're securing the USS Laffey memorial plaque hung in memory of the sailors who died in the 1945 kamikaze attack of Okinawa. Read more »

Bryce Fasteners New Dip Spin Technique called BRYKOTE™

Sep 19, 2014

Bryce Fasteners New Dip Spin Technique called BRYKOTE™ We made the plunge into dip spin coating our fasteners. We think it will be better for our customers. After a fastener failure that should've never happened and significant experimentation with coatings and processes, BryKote™ is a technique we now use similar to Dip Spin. Brian Hill, our Director of Marketing and Sales took on the project until he was satisfied our customers will like it. What… Read more »

Picture Highlights Of REVX™

Sep 11, 2014

We had a professional video made last week about our new patent pending “high performance drive” screw, named REVX™. The insertion of the bit into the screw is so tight creating a zero tolerance fit. This eXtreme precision, results in eXtraordinary performance, and eXtra production (now you know where we got the name REVX™). We think it is the best fastener ever made and the perfect revision… Read more »

Making Set Screws; The Hard Way

Sep 02, 2014

Making Set Screws; The Hard Way Making set-screws is a lost art in America. Set-screw machines are scarce in the states and mostly mass produced overseas. We figured a way to make them on our standard cold heading machines. That was actually easy, threading them was a little harder. Without a head, they don’t fit into conventional threading equipment. The appropriate machine costs over $200K…a little over budget. We found a way… Read more »

Sometimes You Just Have To Find A Way

Aug 28, 2014

Sometimes You Just Have To Find A Way Our customer started out wanting a fairly routine length and diameter screw. Then they stretched it… and then stretched it some more until their request turned into an M3x50 mm long screw. We had to make tooling. There are 7 carbide lined tools in seven separate stations, which must all match. The longer the screw, the harder they are to match. Here is a picture of the stretched screw. It has been… Read more »

Failure And The Fix

Aug 25, 2014

Failure And The Fix We posted a blog in June showing our security screws and nuts securing a bike share in Madrid. Some of the bikes were compromised shortly after our post. It turns out, our Penta- Nuts® on the front axles were ordered too big for the application, allowing someone to get vice grips around the side. Compromises don’t happen to us often, but when they do, they’re always because a wrong size was ordered… Read more »

Torx®, Square Drive, Phillips® Vs REVX™

Aug 19, 2014

Torx®, Square Drive, Phillips® Vs REVX™ I (Bryce) decided to test Torx®, Square Drive, and Phillips® screws while I was helping my son-in-law repair his deck last week. I wanted to see how they compare with Bryce Fastener’s new REVX™ screw. Phillips® has a serious cam-out problem. If you don’t hold the bit in straight with extra force, it jumps out and rounds its corners. It also falls off the screw driver tip easily, which happened… Read more »

You Get What You Pay For

Jul 22, 2014

You Get What You Pay For We’ve all experienced the rush of thinking we’ve gotten a bargain on something only to be disappointed with it in the end. My family and I (Bryce) returned from an all inclusive resort in Mexico two weeks ago and most of us are still feeling the lower G.I. effects. It was a beautiful place with nice accommodations, an abundance of food and a gorgeous looking pool. We thought we got a bargain but… Read more »
