Manufacturer of the world's most secure fasteners

Reviving The Tamperproof Fastener For A New Era of Innovators

It takes over 100 machines to make our security screws, bolts, and nuts. There is a certain rhythm cold-heading machines make when they are producing fasteners, lighter tempos from smaller machines, deeper booms from larger ones. Our largest machine weighs over a ton. We nicknamed her Big Bertha. Big Bertha produces our 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch diameter bolts, and her boom resembles that of a bass drum.

These machines are special. Decades ago, large warehouses filled with them sprawled across the East Coast and Midwest during a time when America had a strong manufacturing presence. But in the 1980's, fastener manufacturing moved offshore. When it did, America lost both infrastructure and knowledge. The price per fastener became a hundred times cheaper, which was good, but the value of true security fasteners was lost.

Imagine if anyone could walk into a hardware store and purchase the matching key, keyless entry pin, or key fob to your front door. Your home security would be obsolete. Because of offshoring, fasteners labeled “tamperproof” can now be purchased at any hardware store or online. We knew that if we were going to compete with offshore pricing, we needed to rethink what a security fastener could be. We had to create solutions that outperformed the popular “tamperproof” options like Torx-Pin, Hex-Pin, Tri-Groove Nuts, One-Ways, and others.

Innovation and a willingness to color outside the lines of standard manufacturing techniques became essential. We took abandoned cold headers left in those old buildings across the East Coast and Midwest. We rebuilt them, integrated new technology, and engineered screws, bolts, and nuts with better security, improved vibration resistance, and stronger load distribution. We also employ machinists who are experts at solving problems and bringing our designs to life.

A significant portion of our customer base consists of like-minded innovators; companies developing specialized products or equipment. They are not afraid to break from industry norms. Many require fasteners in odd sizes or smaller quantities than standard manufacturers want to produce, and they often need fast turnarounds.

This is where Bryce Fastener thrives. It’s our niche: providing unique solutions and delivering extra value. Yes, we can easily produce large batches of standard security screws like Tam-6Lobe or Hex-Pin in a wide range of sizes and lengths (0-80 to 5/8, or M2 to M16). Those are simple for us. Our true strengths shine in the non-standard lengths, higher torque values, shorter lead times, and proprietary security screw designs that function more like custom locks than fasteners.

When I hear the melodies of our machines, I’m reminded of how much companies like ours have to be thankful for. Yes, a big door closed when manufacturing moved offshore but it made room for innovators and creative designers to bring better, more advanced products to market.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!
