It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of January! The Bryce Fastener Team took some time off to celebrate Christmas and reflect on a great year.
At the beginning of this month, our machines started off strong with a 100,000-piece order of Truss Head Tam 6-Lobes™ and several Key-Rex® orders, which included 3/8 x 4 Lag Bolts. We are grateful for our customers who have been with us for over a decade, some even longer. Although they could easily find Tamperproof fasteners, especially Tam 6-Lobe™ and Hex-pin™ at a lower price, they choose us for our ability to make unique sizes and our reliability in delivery and quality. While Tam 6-Lobe™ and Hex-Pin™ tamper-resistant screws are easy for us to produce, I would advise against using them if you require high security. A reliable high-security screw, nut, or bolt should not have easily accessible matching bit tips, and its torque tolerances should meet or surpass standard torque charts.
Bryce Fastener’s Key-Rex®, Penta-Plus™, and Stykfit®7 were designed to meet or exceed these measurements. Our fasteners have undergone testing with a full range of torque wrenches, as achieving the correct torque is critical for security screws. This becomes even more crucial because they must withstand unauthorized attempts using tools like vice grips and wrenches. Proper torque ensures these tools cannot generate enough removal torque. Some believe a Dremel can easily defeat our security screws by creating a slot. Our tests (and a few skeptical customers tests) demonstrate that the Dremel produces a sloppy cut that fails to provide the necessary removal torque with a screwdriver.
Our Key-Rex® is designed like a custom lock, where only the corresponding driver bit can install or remove it. I often encounter a “look alike” Key-Rex® screw on Asian websites. At first glance, I can see multiple design flaws that certain tools could exploit. Pictures of our fasteners have been taken from our website to promote these products. We have attempted to take legal action against these offenders, but they change their names and sources. Be cautious if you see our Key-Rex® and Penta-Plus™ on an Asian website. Their tolerances differ, and they are advertising our products illegally. While lower prices may attract consumers, if security and quality are priorities for your organization, opt for well-designed, durable fasteners. Our customers have discovered that choosing performance over price leads to greater savings in the long run.
