Solar Panel Theft is on the Rise!

Without the proper protection in place, solar panels are surprisingly easy to steal.

Theft is the new roadblock to a green economy. As more panels appear on our streets, homes and businesses, solar panel theft is projected to be the crime of the future. For someone in the industry who knows how to dismount and install solar panels, stealing $30,000 dollars worth one night and installing them on another job is quick cash. Without anti-theft devices, the perpetrator can easily dismount, store, and resell. Investors are concerned about unprotected installations.

The new challenge for dealers and owners is solving the problem with effective security. In Australia it has been reported that certain insurance companies will not over theft claims of solar panels unless an anti theft device was installed beforehand.

Our locks provide a comprehensive solution. Simple in their approach, yet complex in design, installing locks in place of standard fasteners throughout your solar array creates a barrier nearly impossible to break.

The going underground market rate of stolen panels is $1.00/Watt in the U.S. and $1.50/Watt in Mexico.

What Type and Size do I need?

Our customers have found success with Key-Rex fasteners, Penta-Plus fasteners and Penta Nuts
Generally, rack mounts and panels require 1/4-20, 5/16-18 or M6-1.0 diameter
Mounting racks such as Unirac have a bolt sticking up that requires a security nut. Penta Nut is recommended
Other brands of mounting racks will require a security fastener to connect the mounting bracket to a block in the track. Penta-Plus or Key-Rex are recommended depending on the level of security needed.
